The ocean salmon fishing season opened last weekend to mixed success, but almost universal praise by anglers who were pleased with an April opener for the first time in several years. The California ocean regulations require cooperation of Federal authorities, along with agencies from Oregon and Washington. Now that the ocean regs are complete, work is under way to complete California's inland [river] regulations. Nothing firm is available as of yet, but indications are that some moderate additional opportunities compared to last year may be available.

The high flows on the Sacramento River also affect the creatures living along its banks, reported local Department of Fish and Game wildlife biologist Henry Lomeli.
