Identical Hooks
4-3-2011
Bill Roecker
Steve Loomis, the former Royal Polaris skipper and holder of the all-time record for the number of 300-pound tuna on a long range trip had ten of those monsters on a trip in 1978. He had a remark after looking at the catch of nine supercows that arrived with skipper Billy Santiago Friday, April 1. Most of those fish came on the kite with mackerel baits on 20/0 Mustad circle hooks.
"I never saw so many identical hooks on big yellowfin tuna," said Loomis. "When you get 'em on those big circles, you got 'em. They don't get off those hooks."
