Shogun Trip Update (032811)

YELLOWTAIL & GROUPERS (032811)!!! Although it was slow fishing overall we did land big Yellowtail and some Jurassic size tan Groupers and Patinas Bonei. The wind is up a little bit, being sustained at 15 knots, and at 63.8 degrees the water is on the cold side of things here at the rocks. No sign of tuna, it may still be a little on the cool side things for them. Big Fish Happen, Bruce A. Smith Yesterday I was able to clamp the new Newell V521 to my jig stick, though I have yet to catch a fish with this reel the ease of casting and width of this reel will make it, undoubtedly, a must have in the jig slingers arsenal. Not as narrow as the custom cut reels I use for straight spectra, but much more narrow that the 533, it gives a good balance between the two. The 521 width holds enough 50 pound so that you are not throwing half a spool with each cast, but if you so desire to put spectra on it, then you won't have to go out and break the bank to fill it to the rim. More comments and reviews to come as we put this reel through the motions of everyday life on a long range vessel.
