Del Mar bass pros, Ventura County rockfish Some good windows of fishing opportunity are on tap for this weekend, while those who want to stock up on tackle and get some tips from the pros and wait for perfect weather can head down to the Fred Hall Show in Del Mar.

Head down to Del Mar and the Fred Hall Show at the Del Mar Fairgrounds and you will run into top teaching pros like Mike Gardner, Don Iovino and Jarrett Edwards. Remember all active and reserve military get free admission to the show and they also are invited to sign Edwards' bass boat, which will be eventually clear-coated and donated to the Lone Survivor Foundation for use by the veterans being treated at the rehab facility.

If you live up the line in the SF Valley or Ventura County and have already done the Hall Show in Long Beach, then the weather forecast is for some good breaks Saturday and Sunday and SportfishingReport.com sponsor boats have openings available to go out and load up on some reds.

And there's even better news to be found in the long term forecasts, with the rain going away for a good stretch to the point we get a mini heat wave going into the end of next week and the salmon opener on Saturday. Yes, salmon have been caught incidentally in the usual Ventura County "suspect" spots and you're sure to hammer the rockfish with the great conditions. Don't forget that SportfishingReport.com has a great charter fishing next Sunday on the Apollo and we still have plenty of spots. They won't last long once the sun comes out and the warm offshores blow. Salmon, seabass and rockfish, they're all possible targets. Just click on the SFR Charters tab on the menu bar to book your spot. Here's the forecast discussion posted today:

LONG TERM (TUE-FRI)...WARMING AND DRYING TREND WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE PERIOD. OFFSHORE WINDS WILL LIKELY STRENGTHEN OVER THE AREA AS HIGH PRESSURE AMPLIFIES AND BUILDS INLAND. THE PEAK OF THE OFFSHORE WINDS OVER VENTURA/LOS ANGELES COUNTY BORDER IS EXPECTED THURSDAY. TEMPERATURES WILL LIKELY WARM TO ABOVE NORMAL TUE AND CONTINUE TO WARM TO 5 TO 10 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL WEDNESDAY THEN 10 TO 15 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL THROUGHOUT THE AREA THURSDAY AND FRIDAY.
