Landings on the move
Virg's in Morro Bay will soon move its headquarters to another section of the harborside, according to June Davis at the landing. More details will be available as soon as a lease on the new property is signed.

And speaking of signing leases, SFR sources say all the paperwork has been inked and Redondo Sportfishing will reopen for business on May 1, with Larry Derr of In-Seine Bait Company and Malibu Sportfishing the new owner.

You really need a scorecard to keep track of the boats and landings these days, but it's a good thing to see two of the oldest operations in the business manage to survive all the changes these times have wrought.

Virg's,of course, is steeped in a family tradition that extends from landing owners to boat owners and has had to bear the brunt of many tough fisheries decisions. The fact is the fishing it still great and there's no better way to beat the Central Valley heat than take a ride on a Virg's boat and come home with a sack of fish for the table.

The owners, operators and crew members who have walked the Redondo Sportfishing have their own rich history, with tales both tragic and triumphant. It would have been a shame if all of Leslie Page's hard work to save Rocky Point from the MLPA process would have gone for naught.

The cool thing about preserving the legacy of landings such as Virg's and Redondo is that ultimately the best thing we as fishermen can do is go fishing. To preserve a lifestyle you have to live it.
