SFR COBRA CHARTER

3-9-2011
Don Padick

The SFR crew kicked off our 2011 charter season with a full day trip aboard the Cobra sportfisher out of Channel Islands Sportfishing Center in Oxnard. Captain John Sudac was at the helm of the recently repowered Cobra with JJ on the deck to round out the crew. The weather was up with high winds and rough seas out in the channel with higher winds forecast for the afternoon. Anglers aboard included a hearty group of anglers from up north so we were determined to make a day of it. The channel crossing was a little rough but once we got to the backside of Anacapa island the seas flattenned out enough to be fishable. We started drifting the rocky reefs and pinnacles behind the island for a slow pick on reds, chucks and other assorted rockfish. Our options were a bit limited with the howling wind making many areas unfishable. We fished hard for about 7 fish a head before the afternoon winds picked up and sent us heading for the harbor. Many Thanks to Captain John and JJ for their hard work. The Cobra fishes out of Channel Islands Sportfishing Center and is available for charter groups of up to 20 anglers by calling 1-310-403-9969. With its new engine and 12 knot cruising speed the Cobra with Captain John and crew are ready to take you to where the fish are. Give them a call at 1-310-403-9969, check their website, www.malibucharters.com, or call Channel Islands Sportfishing Centerat 1-805-382-1612 for their full schedule. Don't forget to look for them at the Fred Hall show in Long Beach this week.
