Fish Report for 2-16-2011

Chillin'

"Fishing for tuna was tough today," said the report from Royal Polaris February 15, "but due to the incredible effort our anglers are putting out, we put up some respectable numbers and put down some very respectable fish today. 32 tuna and 24 wahoo are now "chilling out" on the RP. The wahoo all found us while tuna fishing, and at times were almost a pest but surely a hook manufacturer's best friend. A flurry of tuna came around daybreak on both Salamis and sardines, and a little bit of a flurry again before dinner. The bulk of the day was a very hard scratch and a lot of the tuna came off the kite. The French connection scored on tuna today and of special note was Steve Hanks's 174-pounder that beat his personal best by 100 pounds. The tuna today ranged from 65 to around 175 pounds, the majority being closer to the later. We began fishing before 4 AM and fished hard until dinner. A very long day but every one put in maximum effort, which is why we can boast on today's catch. We are currently making more bait and will of course try equally hard tomorrow, especially since Frank told us the RSW will open tomorrow."
