FROM RAGS TO RICHES (022011)!!! I guess one of the things that fascinates us fishermen, is the unpredictability of the sport. Remember how bad yesterday was for us. Multiply that by 10 and take it in the opposite direction, and that's how good fishing was today. We got four fish over 200 today. The first to hit the deck and earn the last of Jack's Accurate reel awards was caught by Koi Marcucelli and went 211 to become his new personal best by just a couple of pounds. It came in the early morning flurry we've been so spoiled by, and it was a good bite that saw many great fish landed besides Koi's. There were several in the 180 range, both lady anglers hooked up (Kathy landed hers, Allison lost her fish, but got two later on in the day), and though I hate to ever be self serving, I must admit that for at least the morning bite, I had the hot stick landing 2 around 160. The morning flurry eventually ended but that was just the beginning of a fabulous day of fishing. The kite was definitely the "A" ticket ride today. It seemed to go off constantly and we worked through the rotation almost three times. Dr. Pete, and Gary Lacroix almost simultaneously landed a 229 for Pete and a 230 for Gary. Pete's was his personal best. Nick Didovic also scored a 203 off the kite. The majority of the fish landed today were in the 160 to 190 category, and there were a bunch of them! Total for today was 54 Tuna and 36 Wahoo. I don't think there was 30 minutes total all day when at least one fish wasn't on. The tremendous turn around was just what the Dr. ordered after two slow days. Every one is totally exhausted (in a happy way) from fighting these beasts. To give you an example of just how hard these fish fight, Robert Tankersley eventually landed a fish of around 180 that broke both his rod and his reel. The reel by the way was NOT an Accurate, and the line had to be cut and spliced onto another reel during the heat of battle. The crew routinely works such miracles out here every day. Tomorrow is our last day of fishing, and if it's any where near as good as today we will plug the boat. Already there is a 100 pound minimum in effect for keeping fish, we can only hope it goes up from there as we fill up.
POEM FOR THE DAY:
The grouper was totally hyper
Going on about her kid's diaper
The fish should have knew
That that's what kids do!
The grouper is just a big griper.
