Topaz Derby Week 7

2-17-2011
Carilyn Albin

Week 7 was about the same or should I say consistent with previous weeks. ? We weighed in  ?41 fish with average weight being about 2  ?" lbs. ? The weather was cold and windy this last week with mostly sunny skies. Biggest for the week goes to Jeanann Nagy of Markleeville weighing in at 4.0 lbs and 23  ? " . ? Second place goes to Joe Simplicio of Topaz weighing in at 3.9 lbs. ? 22  ?"  ?. ? I was looking at last year's derby sheets and after week 2 we weighed in about 5 to 10 fish per week. ? This year we are weighing in about 40 per week. ? Wow that's great! ? We love to be busy. ?

The new Fish and game systems have been pretty neat and will only get better with each year. ? So Anglers and Hunters hold on to your old licenses and next time you come in to purchase your license it should be much easier. ?
 ?
Also I would like to bring up a subject that has been quite disappointing to anglers this Derby.  ?Nevada Fish and game put their own tagged fish in the lake this year. ? The tags are not worth any money but are designed to help fish and game in tracking the fish  ?they planted in Topaz. ? Some of our Derby participants have caught them and thinking they were our tags assumed they would win $100.00. ? I am very sorry to say these tags are not redeemable to Topaz Lodge. ? The tags are about twice as long as ours. ? Our tags read TL 2011 and then the number of the tag. ? We check to make sure all tags are genuine at the store. ? The other problem we have had this year is people taking the tags off of the fish. ? All tags have to be affixed to the fish to be redeemed for cash and tickets into the drawing.
 ?
Thank you to all that are partaking in the festivities this year. ?  ? ?
