Lake Poway Fishing Report

2-13-2011
Lake Poway Staff

Windy but good. The winds shut down boating on Wednesday and Thursday but the trout bite kept on biting especially on the East Shoreline. The anglers that stuck the wind out were rewarded with full stringers or near limits with the average trout weighing 2.5lbs. The bass bite picked up on Friday and Saturday around the rock pile off the log boom and some of the rocky spots along the shoreline, mostly top water. The catfish bite was slow but a few decent size ones were caught off the log boom with mackerel. The water level remains steady and the water temp is at 57 degrees. Pre-sale of 30 fishing boats for the Open Trout Derby on Saturday, March 12, 2011 is available now at the Lake Poway Grill & Tackle, Wednesday through Sunday from sunrise to sunset. 20 boats will be available on a first come first served basis the day of at the Park Office. For additional information please call or e-mail the Park Ranger Office at (858) 668 - 4772 or LakeRanger@poway.org. All fish to be considered must be weighed in a logged at the boat dock to qualify. For tips, tricks and more on how to catch bass you can attend Fisherman's Outpost fishing seminar on Sunday, March 6, 2011 at 1:00pm. It is a free event. Additionally, be on the lookout for Lake Poway's Family Campout Adventure Series coming on Saturday, April 16, 2011. This full moon campout is geared more towards the fisherman and hikers. Catfish dominate the week! The catfish bite was best this week followed by top water bass and then a few bluegill / sunfish. The bluegill/sunfish bite is good in hidden bay. The catfish bite remains consistent but the big ones are still breaking lines and remain free. The top water bass bite is very good over most of the Lake wherever shad are boiling. Bass has a 12" minimum for keepers. Please do not keep female bass, catch and release....... Read More
