Silver Creek in Idaho

10-2-2010
Frank Ursitti - Ranger 85

Just returned from 10 days on the road in Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho. The weather was incredible, with temps averaging 85 each day. We stayed in Yellowstone for 5 days and saw much wildlife. buffalo, elk, deer, dogs and tourists, lots of tourists. We managed to tour most of the park, but feel a subsequent visit is in order. We made it to the upper region of the Grand Teton National Park, another spectacular scenic wonder. Just so much to see, we could have stayed another week. We hired a guide and floated the Madison River outside the west gate of Yellowstone for spectacular scenery and phenomenal fishing (those pics are pics on the old mans camera). First real exposure to fly fishing, and it was off the hook. Talked the old man into that one...consider for a moment he is 78, and I drug him along...way to go Pop. He caught his share on the fly as well! The shop where we got our guide watched Lieu all day, and complimented him as being very social and outgoing with the customers who came in and out of the shop all day.(by the time we left, all the locals in the town of West Yellowstone knew him). We then traveled west to the Sawtooth Mountains of Idaho and met Michael for a few days in the Ketchum area. While in  ?Ketchum we hired another guide and fished the Silver Creek Conservation area, a wildlife refuge set aside years ago by Earnest Hemingway (his father used to take him to the region as a young man) for sportsman both field and stream and managed to land a few nice browns.(images attached). Could not believe the weather, reminded me of past trips to the Sierras where much gear was packed and damned if I didn't bring a pair of shorts. Just spectacular. Can't wait to do it again. I'll forward a few more images as they come available.
