South Lake Fishing Report

Jared Smith
The first snow of the year arrived this past week and while it didn't affect the creek fishing at all, the bite at the lake slowed down some, especially by the inlets. Thankfully the bite rebounded by the time the weekend came around. Even with the weather being all over the place, the north wind prevailed which made the lake fishable all week long for those willing to brave the conditions.
Trolling in the back of the lake with Olive Wooly Buggers or Blue/Silver Thomas Bouyants was excellent this week, even during the snow. Best baits at the inlets included the crawler/bobber setup or any yellow Powerbait fished 3ft off the bottom. Pink powerworms or Gulp! worms and grasshopper or rainbow sparkle tube jigs were the best bet for those who like to throw plastics. The bigger fish were playing hard to get at the lake this week although I did see a 4lb 3oz 'bow landed on Friday evening at the Gilbert Glacier inlet on a pink powerworm.
