Avila albacore report

9-19-2010
Bill Cavanaugh - Pacific Dawn

Hi everyone, Today was an absolutely amazing day. Flat calm seas, clear skies, a great group of fisherman and good albacore fishing. We started our day by putting out the trolling jigs at sunrise and around 7:30 turned on some fish which bit the jigs...Hook Up! A short time later we swung the boat on some sonar fish and got a 3 way jig strike right away. As I was bringing the boat to a stop a saw a number of albacore jumpers on the bow, the fathom meter was covered with meter marks and the guys were yelling on the back deck as we started hooking bait fish. These fish wanted to bite and soon we had fish boiling in the chum right behind the boat. When the dust had settled we had 40 albacore out of the stop, all of which were 20 to 35 pounds. A few more stops through out the day and we ended up with 90 albacore. Beautiful weather, good albacore fishing....good times. The bait we have is anchovie and the best rig was 20 or 25 pound test with a #2 live bait hook and a collar hooked bait. We also got a number of fish on the 3oz. P-Line laser minnow in black and silver. We are out again tomorrow...wish u s luck. Bill Cavanaugh
