Lake Sabrina Fishing Report

8-22-2010
Lake Chabot Marina

Fishing slowed a tad this week - not sure if it was the brisk breezes coming thru, but those with a little perseverance were up at the cleaning table with their limits. What's been working is still working - fishing the Inlets with NightCrawlers, PowerBait or jigs. Trollin' flashers with a NightCrawler or a WoolyBugger or a lure with a bit of red. Drifting a NightCrawler or PowerBait around the rock-piles or over the shore line between the two natural lakes. Shore fishing with Salmon Eggs, NightCrawlers or PowerBait.

Phil Moores with son Talen of Crestline made quite team - Phil on the rod end and Talen on the net end - landing a 3-1/2 pound fish on a NightCrawler ~ having NO stringer he used his dog's leash to make sure he didn't get away. Boy Scout Brendan of Southern California got his fish catching badge with a 2-1/2 pound Rainbow using Garlic PowerBait. Pete Torgerson's limit of 5 came to 4.25 pounds caught on Lime Twist PowerBait and Red and Gold Thomas Buoyants from shore.

The Department of Fish and Game stocked the lake on Tuesday with another very nice load of fish. Thank you. SweetPea is having loads of fun at the lake this year - between playing with Max & Lo, she enjoys running and leaping into the lake. The breezes are forecast to die down Sunday. Temperatures are expected to remain in the low 70s for highs and the mid 50s for lows with a chance of some thunder-boomers at the end of next week. You can check www.weather.gov and enter Aspendell, CA on the site and it will give you a fairly good hint at the weather or check in with Howard at www.MammothWeather.com . Suckers have gone back to the depths of the lake to feed the browns.

All USFS campgrounds are still open. The price this year to camp at the Forest Service campgrounds are $21.00. The only USFS campground that accepts reservations is Four Jeffery. There 31 sites available for reservations: you can book on-line at www.recreation.gov or call 1-877-444-6777. All other campsites at Four Jeffery and the other campgrounds are first come, first served. There is a full hook-up RV campground - Creekside RV park which is on the road to South Lake.

It's nice to have a bit of a breeze as that is all it takes to blow them away. Don't forget the bug juice. Remember your polarized dark glasses and sunscreen. Wash your hands after you applied sunscreen, bug juice or any other fu-fu juice. Lake Sabrina Boat Landing has gone to summer hours. That means we'll be opening at 7:00am and stay open until 7:00pm. The café is now open daily for breakfast at 7:00am to 11:00am with lunch being served from 11:00am to 4:00pm. We have homemade pie, sodas, beer, wine, coffee, tea and hot cocoa. The Lake Sabrina crew is looking forward to seeing you all this year.
