I had the pleasure of fishing with Diane and Cal Kellogg today. Cal is a writer for the "Fish Sniffer Maganzine and future farmer. Cal started the day losing the first 4 kokanee, that's where farming comes in. Diane, on the other hand did not lose any fish today. We had a windy last night and morning. We hit the water around 6:30 am. The breeze was about 15 mph. That makes for tough fishing on Whiskeytown. We had to hide in the Whiskeytown Creek cove. When the kokanee see the boat, they just go crazy. That is all part of fishing. You have to take the good and the bad sometimes, it was just Cal's turn. Then the wind stopped, it gave us a chance to get out into the middle of the lake. We had 2 doubles and Cal landed a 17" kokanee. This was my biggest fish so far in this early season. We ended up with 9 fish in the box. I fished Sep's 4/0 gold star-lite and 4/0 Gold with blue prism dodgers with a hot orange kokanee kandy. Our depth was between 50'-65' of water. Good day with great people.
