Diamond Valley Lake Fishing Report

Diamond Valley Lake Staff
Lake Elevation: 1678.25
Surface water temp: 74- 76 degrees
Fish Plants: Scheduled trout plants will resume when surface temps decrease.
Lake Hours: 5:45am to 7:00pm
Weather: Temperatures have been in the 60's in the morning and rising to over 100 in the afternoon.
BASS
High heat combined with wild fires in the area made bass fishing more difficult this week, but that is not to say there has not been typical DVL reports. The best anglers have been reporting 20 fish days, but the catches are running small, between 2 and 3 pounds. Drop shot rigged worms in oxblood, prism shad, and morning dawn, fat Ikas in watermelon or green pumpkin, and Carolina rigged brush hogs have been reported as the best choices in plastics fished on the points. There have been some spinner bait reports from afternoon fishermen. For those who are targeting big bass in the morning scroungers, shallow running cranks and jerkbaits are the way to go. The biggest bass reported this week was caught by Sean Gibson of Anaheim who landed a 5.70 pound bass fishing with scroungers along the east dam.
TROUT
If you are looking for DVL holdover trout you can find 6-8 pound rainbows in 10-25 feet of water on the south side of the west dam.
STRIPER
Anglers reported a few small striper catches this week on scroungers and underspins. The most reported spots are the north corner of the east dam, near the inlet, and by restroom 2. William Gibson had the biggest fish of the week at 14.20 pounds fishing with scroungers along the west dam.
CATFISH
Anglers have been consistently catching cats from shore as well as boats. Mackerel and anchovies have been the most reported baits, but shrimp and chicken liver has accounted for a few reports. The most reported areas have been the third cove west of the marina, Rawson cove, near the inlet, and along the east dam.
PANFISH
The panfish bite is wide open! Anglers reported mass quantities of blue gill with a few red ear an crappie in the mix. Mini jigs, mealworms, and nightcrawlers fished along the dams will guarantee some family fun.
