Jess Ranch Lake Fishing Report

6-20-2010
Jess Ranch Lakes Staff

Unseasonably cool weather on the high desert helped to improve the trout action but anglers still had to work their tackle boxes with Power Bait ( especially salmon peach, orange, garlic, sherbet), night crawlers, jigs and lures all catching limits. Best bite was before 10 am and after 1 pm (depending on the afternoon winds). Most trout were near or over 2 pounds. Hot spots included the grassy point and the eastern and western shores of lake 3 as well as the western and northern shores of lake 2. Catfish were biting on shrimp and night crawlers with anglers catching their limits from the western and northern shores of lake 2. Bass are active with anglers using senkos, spinner bait and night crawlers to catch fish up to 5 pounds. Hot spots for bass included the northern and western shores of lake 3 and the western and southern shores of lake 2. Bluegill are still not completely active with the continuing cool temperatures but a few limits are being caught on the southern and eastern shore of lake 2 and the northern and western shores of lake 3 on night crawlers, meal worms and small jigs.

Attached Pic: Tom Nieves of West Covina caught his limit that included a 6 lbs 13 ozs rainbow. He used a night crawler to catch the big trout while fishing the northern shore of lake 2 at Jess Ranch Lakes.

Catches of the Week: Nine year old, John Luevano of Fontana caught a 3 lbs 12 ozs rainbow from the grassy point of lake 3 using salmon peach Power Bait while fishing with his brothers and dad. Apple Valley angler, Robert Meyers reeled in a 4 lbs 12 ozs trout on garlic Power Bait from the grassy point of lake 3. Tom Nieves of West Covina scored a 6 lbs 13 ozs rainbow on a night crawler while fishing the northern shore of lake 2. Nate Coleman of Rancho Cucamonga caught his 3 lbs 14 ozs rainbow using a gold kastmaster from the western shore of lake 3 near the bridge. San Bernardino angler, Paul Maltin, reeled in a 3 lbs 6 ozs trout using an orange Power Worm from the western shore of lake 2 near the drain.

We will be stocking 2000 lbs of catfish on June 29, 2010 in time for the 4th of July. The Lakes' Hatchery stocks trout every Friday year round. This year the Lakes' hatchery is amping up the weekly trout stockings with bigger fish overall. Hours: Friday through Sunday--7am to 4pm.
