Weather Couldn't Stop Us

Our first charter aboard the MAXIMUS out of PAPA HOOKS SPORTFISHING hunting for the elusive White Seabass held high expectations for all 15 anglers. The weather completely shut down any chances of going to the islands, so Capt Keith Denette had everyone show up at 7:00 pm and get an early start to another area. We were greeted on the boat By Capt\'s Keith and Chaz, with John, Pat and Hunter on the deck and Stephanie in the galley. Capt Keith gave us his plans to run down the line to a spot that he thought would be holding some White Seabass and that it would probably would be a night bite. We arrived to his spot around midnight and were soon dropping sardines, freah dead squid and mackeral to the bottom hoping for some action. Within the hour we had a couple pick ups and the fish were lost in the kelp. Several folks stayed up all night trying to get their first ever White Seabass, but they did not want to play after 3am. At grey light several of us started trying for some Calicos and were soon rewarded with some quality fish. However, the Calico did not want to cooperte much either and after several moves Capt Keith decided to run out and try for some rockfish. To say the rockfishing was epic is an understatement, it was the best quality fish I have seen in a few years. We were soon pulling up nothing but Vermillions anywhere from 3 - 9 lbs. We soon got limits and started the trip back to the dock. Galley cook Stephanie served some awesome fish tacos on the way home for everyone. Thanks to Capt Keith and his crew for showing us an absolutely awesome trip, by the way, the weather was unbelievable and flat calm for us. To get in on the action give PAPA HOOKS SPORTFISHING at 805-382-6233 to get in on the action.
