Pardee Lake Reservoir Fish Report

4-2-2010
Fred Dorman

Rain is forecast throughout the weekend, changing to partly cloudy by Tuesday with some wind gusty at times

The forecast calls for rain on and off till midweek. Look for daytime temperatures in the mid 50's and 60's and 40's in the evening for the weekend and beyond. Lake level dropped another foot since last report and is now approximately 18 feet below spill. Water temperatures are still cold, 48 degrees at 20 feet and 52 at surface. Water clarity decreased a bit due to recent rains and is currently good to 15 feet.

Bank Fishing- Blue Herron Point, the parking lot bank behind TomSawyerIsland, the Island itself and the Launch Ramp are the most popular spots again this week. The hot baits remain power bait (eggs, worms and paste), night crawlers and Kastmasters. The best colors for power bait have been orange, pink and white along with the silver/blue combination for the Kastmaster.

Trolling-----Methods, depths and baits remain unchanged. Anglers are still flat lining, using 3 to 4 colors of lead core or drift fishing the River starting at Columbia Gulch and going up as far as Indian Rock. Good size holdover Trout in the 3 to 6 lb range have been reported recently. The cold water is keeping the fish within 10 feet of the surface, so no need to go deep. Small spoon or needlefish type lures in pink or florescent orange/red tipped with a night crawler, grub or power worm behind small flashers, dodgers or sidekicks in silver/green work well.

Recent success stories-----"Fish Chris" an avid bass fisherman got this 10.2 lb Largemouth last week. Chris didn't share what he used and where he got this beautiful specimen, which may be the key to his success! Chris always put 'em back. Congratulations-well done!!!

California Department of Fish and Game has planted 3000 lbs of fish in addition Pardee Lake Inc has planted 25,000 lbs of trout with more plants scheduled for the near future.
