BASS
Shore anglers and boaters have been nailing big bass this week. Carolina rigged worms and creatures, senkos, ikas and the drop shot remained great bass baits. The best colors for plastics are watermelon, green pumpkin, and dark purples. The swimbait bite is still producing. Huddlestons and LA Sliders and BBZ's were the best big baits lately. James Paxton of Banning caught a 5.4 pound bass fishing with a BBZ on the west dam. Larry Rogers of riverside caught a 9.21 pound bass fishing with a swimbait. Ronnie Marks of Riverside caught five bass totaling 20.61 pounds fishing from shore. The Top Stick Tour two day tournament last weekend had a total of 20 teams weighing in over 630 pounds of bass. Top stick went to Bill Siemental and Troy Lindner with combined weight of 51.35 and $6315 in earnings. Second place went to Mike Phua and John wick weighed in 46.03 pounds. Third place went to Rocky Asbury and Pat Keniry with 43.65 pounds.
TROUT
The Lassen plant made it a free for all on the shore at DVL. Most limits were caught from the west shoreline with Powerworms, nightcrawlers, and mini jigs. A few boaters had success along the east dam with similar baits. Ernesto Macotela of Riverside caught his two biggest trout at 3.57 and 3.58 pounds fishing with a mini jig on the east shore. Joel Ruiz of Palm Springs caught two trout totaling 13.70 pounds. Mike Dickinson of Hemet caught 3 trout totaling 14.79 pounds his biggest at 6 pounds fishing near the east dam with chartreuse Powerworms. Arnie Hernandez reported a 5.30 pound trout caught on Powerbait. Don Garcia of Hemet caught a 5.10 pound trout fishing from shore with gray mini jigs. James Gonzales of Hemet caught a 4.0 pound trout fishing the west shore with Powerbait.
STRIPER
Striper fishing is a cakewalk after the trout stock. Big baits are bringing in some big weights. The east dam has been a traffic jam for those trying to blindside a lineside. What kind of lure to get a striper for sure? Lunker Punkers, LA sliders, Zplugs, Huddlestons, and BBZ are some to pick that'll do the trick. Markus Sanchez of Hemet caught an 18.10 pound striper fishing from shore with a BBZ jr. Kris Massie of Oceanside caught an 8.76 pound striper fishing with a swimbait. Steven Burns caught a 18.74 pound striper fishing the east shoreline with a Lunker Punker. John Ross of Mission Viejo caught a 9" swimbait. James Paxton of Banning caught a 7.5 and 9 pound striper fishing with a BBZ. Hugh Watt of Beaumont caught a 12.25 pound striper fishing near the inlet with a Castaic swimbait.
CATFISH
Not many cats were caught this week. Rawson cove and the inlet were familiar spots to try. Most cut baits, nightcrawlers, or Hog Wild will catch the cats.
PANFISH
The California Department of Fish and Game issued new fishing regulations effective March 1st. The daily bag limit for sunfish is reduced to 25 fish and incorporated into a combined bag limit of 25 sunfish and crappie of all species.
