DFG To Hold Public Meeting on Salmon
The public is invited to testify at an upcoming public meeting about California salmon populations and the 2010 ocean and river salmon fisheries. The 2010 Salmon Information Meeting, sponsored by the California Department of Fish and Game (DFG), will be held Feb. 25 from 1-3 p.m. at the Sonoma County Water Agency Building, 404 Aviation Blvd. in Santa Rosa.
At the meeting, DFG staff will present the 2009 salmon data and related information relevant to the ocean and river Chinook fisheries. DFG will take public input prior to presenting the information to the Pacific Fishery Management Council (PFMC) at its March meeting.
The Feb. 25 meeting marks the beginning of a two-month long management process used to establish ocean and river salmon seasons. Salmon fishing seasons are developed through a collaborative regulatory process involving DFG, the PFMC, the National Marine Fisheries Service and the U. S. Department of Commerce.
A list of additional meetings to be held throughout the season-setting process can be found on DFG's Web site at www.dfg.ca.gov/marine/oceansalmon..asp.
