Bass

Drop shotting or Carolina rigging plastics was a mainstay for bass fisherman. 4" worms in green or purple worked great for the drop shot rig, and brushog's and lizards in green pumpkin or watermelon seed were great for those using the Carolina rig. fished deep and slow brought in some of the biggest fish this week with the LA Slider getting top billing. The Rapala jigging rap was another good lure fort deep bass fishing. Bass fishing has been the most productive on south shore points 40 - 60 feet down. Elliott Mark Lewis Jr. of Beaumont caught a 2.63 and 3.79 pound bass fishing with plastics on the east shoreline. Kyle Packwood of Hemet caught a five pound bass fishing from shore with a roostertail. Richard Laughery of Perris caught a 6.08 pound bass fishing from shore with a spoon. Kenny Baldwin Highland caught his biggest bass at 8.75 pounds fishing with a Producer plug. "Sea Addiction" had the most outstanding report of the week with his biggest five fish totaling 45 pounds. He was fishing swimbaits 40-50 feet down; his biggest fish weighed over 13 pounds.

Trout

2010 started out great for trout at DVL. Boat anglers saw little luck, but shore anglers are still getting limits with ease. Trout are biting near the marina specifically along the west shoreline fishing area, but holdover trout have been few. Most trout are caught between 5-10 feet with nightcrawlers, mini jigs, or Powerbait in green or rainbow. Kastmasters, Thomas Buoyants, and Roostertails also enticed some fish lately. Shon and Lucy of riverside caught their three biggest fish at 6, 6.9, and 8.1 pounds fishing with Lip Ripperz jigs near in the marina cove. Tim Merrifield of Poway caught a 6.5 pound trout fishing the east shore with a green mini jig. Kyle Packwood of Hemet caught an 8 pound trout fishing from shore with a Roostertail.

Striper

The striper bite kept lines tight this week. Trout swim baits, Plugs or large topwater baits were the most reported lures for striper. LA Sliders, Zplugs, Lunker Punkers, and Spooks are great choices. Fishing points near the marina or on the inlet remain proven spots for boaters. Matthew Johnson of Hemet caught a 12 pound striper fishing from shore with a swimbait. Sheldon Johnson of Hemet caught a 12.77 pound striper fishing from shore with a BBZ. Steve Nicholas of Hemet caught two striper at 14.28 and 18.65 pounds fishing from shore with a Lunker Punker. Gabriel Correa of Riverside caught a 16 pound striper fishing along the west dam with a swimbait. Kenny Baldwin of Highland caught three striper at 13, 12.50, and 10 pounds fishing with a Producer Plug. Mark Franco of Yucaipa caught four striper at 9.11, 10.20, 10.80, and 11.20 pounds fishing near the inlet with a jointed Rapala. Chuck Chambers of Moreno Valley caught a 12.12 pound striper fishing near restroom 2 with an AC plug. Mike Southerland of Fontana caught a two striper at 12.75 and 8.5 pounds fishing near the west dam with an LA Slider.

Catfish

There were no catfish reported this week, but great spots for catfish are Rawson cove, near the east dam, or wave attenuator. The most effective baits included anchovies, mackerel, and raw shrimp. Most catfish have been found on the bottom in 25 - 50 feet.

Panfish

There were some great crappie reports this week but most anglers have been tight lipped about specific locations and methods. From what we can tell the fishing is best along the dams, specifically near the stairways. Anglers have found that fishing 20 -30 feet off the dams using live worms or jigs.
