Lake Jennings Fish Report

1-25-2010
Jeff Barnes

Hello from your Lake Jennings! We got hosed by the rains and while the fish are already wet the bass and trout did not seem to like it. Like always some of the cats moved to the muddy water in the backs of the coves and bit willingly. Our trout delivery was postponed because the truck was unable to make it. The crawdad bite backed off a little bit. Bass have been caught in 50 ft. of water off the points.

Best Trout Spots: Cactus patch, Half Moon Cove and Sentry Points.
Best Trout Lures/Bait: Inflated nightcrawlers and salmon peach Power Bait.

Best Catfish Spots: The dam buoyline and Cloister Cove.
Best Catfish Bait: Chicken livers, mackerel, and night crawlers. Use scent liberally.

Best Bass Spots: The quarry.
Best Bass Lures/Bait: Crawdads.

Notables: Sun., Jake Alirez age 9, John Visser (grandfather), Lemon Grove, 10 trout, Sentry Point, salmon egg peach Power Bait AND 10 catfish, buoyline, chicken livers (visit www.lakejennings.org/gallery/recentcatch.htm to view the photo).

Prognosis: More rain this week probably will slow fishing down except for the cats. Our 14th Sierra Bow trout plant is on schedule for Tuesday, January 26th. We will stock 1,000 lbs. every week for the next 10 weeks. Runoff always brings cats to the coves. Fish the color line and they will be there.

Water Temperature: 54 degrees on the surface.

Current Schedule: Lake Jennings will be open this Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 5:45 a.m. - 5:15 p.m.

FREE Fishing Classes Open to the Public!

Lake Jennings Fishing University will hold a fishing class this Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The classes concentrate on what is working best. This week's class will talk about trout fishing. Most importantly, the classes are FREE! Ranger Hugh will be the professor.

Hello from your Lake Jennings! Sorry about the lack of information for the last two weeks, but I could not get out of bed to write this. I will admit that up until a few days ago the rumors of my demise seemed to be true but now appear to be exaggerated. What did die are the hot bites. We are raising the lake about 5 inches a day and that has everything trying to figure out where to go and what to do....... Read More
