Fish Report for 1-8-2010
This weekend on LTH
1-8-2010
Pete Gray
Plenty of good winter fishing is available and the weather has been fantastic to take advantage of it.
Reports from Catalina are that squid is in plentiful supply on both the front and back side of the island. Full floats are reported on the west end of the island. Squid boats are there if you don't want to make your own. San Pedro bait receiver also has squid. School size seabass are being caught on the west end too. Church rock area in 80-120 feet has also produced a few seabass. Not much fishing pressure, therefore not too many reports. Watch out for the fog.
San Clemente Island has had little fishing pressure, but good bass fishing and the occasional spot of yellowtail.
La Jolla is still producing the occasional seabass and yellowtail early in the morning, but you will need to put your time in to get your shot. Giant squid fishing on the 9 mile bank is still very good- go out of Seaforth Sportfishing and keep your boat from getting inked! Rock fishing is closed in US waters until March, but good fishing on the lower 9, the finger bank and Colonet 1 1/2 day trips. The Indian is running 1 day trips from H and M Landing to the finger bank every weekend and every other Wednesday. The Legend from Seaforth Sportfishing and the Apollo from Fishermans Landing are running 1 1/2 day trip every weekend.
Long Range boats have been a bit slow on the big fish after a few days of very good fishing on large tuna. As we head for the dark of the moon, watch for this big fish to turn on again. Plenty of long trips with openings on the best fishing boats in the world, so if you are looking for a winter getaway, sign up now.
