BLUE RIBBON TASK FORCE MEETING
November 10, 2009
Sheraton Gateway Hotel
6101 West Century Blvd., Los Angeles, California
Your time on the water is being threatened by the implementation of the Marine Life Protection Act (MLPA), which requires the formation of a network of marine protected areas (MPAs) in California's coastal waters, including marine reserves which prohibit all consumptive activities. This includes recreational fishing!
On November 10, the Blue Ribbon Task Force (BRTF) will be making its final recommendation regarding which MPA proposal to recommend as its preferred alternative to California's Fish and Game Commission for the South Coast.
The BRTF was schedule to make a final recommendation during its October 22, 2009 meeting. However, due to time constraints, the decision was delayed until November 10.
The Partnership for Sustainable Oceans (PSO), which represents the interests of anglers and boaters, supports Proposal 2 for the South Coast. Of the three proposals in front of the BRTF, only Proposal 2 reflects the true spirit of conservation - balancing protection of the environment while minimizing the economic impact.
ATTEND THE UPCOMING BRTF MEETING
Please attend the public meeting on November 10 in support of Proposal 2 and help ensure that anglers have a strong presence! While official public comment is not currently scheduled, it is important that recreational anglers are represented in person if questions arise or input is needed. Let the BRTF members know how important recreational fishing is to you and your family, and that additional marine reserves do not always mean more - or better -conservation!
SEND YOUR MESSAGE NOW!
Prior to attending the meeting, send a letter to the Blue Ribbon Task Force in support of Proposal 2. The Task Force needs to hear from you before its upcoming vote - send your letter now!
