Well, this report is a little late, but ... just like the Albackore Fall Surf Slam held this past October, the Spring Surf Slam on Saturday, April 14, 2007, was another sold out event. This year we had 301 paid participants and another hundred or so spectators. As always, the Albackore Surf Slam is a Gulp! only tournament.

Saturday proved to be quite breezy, but the overall weather was not bad. It was surely a break between low pressures, so the timing couldn't have been better. A strong surge and swell brought on by a week of offshore storms and wind made surf fishing conditions less than favorable.

A total of 27 fish were scored in the point system compared to more than six hundred last fall. But the enthusiasm was still there and everyone had a great time. Thousands of dollars in prizes and cash was awarded to the lucky tournament and raffle winners.

The final tally of cash and prizes was as follows:

First Place Winners $1,000.00 each !! (3-way tie) Stan Shintani, Jason Katje and Alex Rojas.

Second Place Winners $100.00 each! (22-way tie)

Youth Division: $100.00 each among 5 anglers

Halibut Division: $100.00 each among 9 anglers

$1,000.00 was donated to United Anglers

PLUS $10,800 in Goodie Bags and over $14,000 in Raffle Prizes!
