Justin Fleck delivered his 30 Excel anglers home to Fisherman's Landing January 5 after a good ten-day trip to the southern banks. They had a very good catch of tuna, including 20 over 200 pounds, and released six marlin.

"The crew was amazing,??? said jackpot winner Kurt Selzer of Ventura. "On our last stop, we hung six in the dark, and we got all six aboard.???

Selzer's 261-pounder bit a mackerel, he said, on an Eagle Claw 9/0 hook, 130-pound mono and 130-pound Spectra backing. He said he used a Penn 50 SW reel and a Calstar 760H rod and beat the fish in an hour.

P.J. Molina of Lakewood was second, for a 259-pounder that also bit a mackerel on a 6/0 Eagle Claw circle hook. He also used 130-pound line and 130-pound Spectra backing on a 50 Tiagra reel and a Calstar 760 H rod.

Chris Kumai of Berkeley was third, for a 251-pound tuna. He baited a sardine on a an 8/0 ringed Eagle Claw hook tied to 130-pound Izorline and 130-pound Line One Spectra backing. He fished with a Penn 50 SW reel and a custom Calstar Baby Boomer rod.

Danny Dixon, 17 and a deckhand on Tim Green's Fisherman III, made his first long trip and took three tuna over 200 pounds. Danny goes to Mar Vista High.

"The crew was awesome,??? said Danny, who lettered in fishing at school. He got his with 8/0 Eagle Claw hooks, 130-pound Big Game line and 130-pound Spectra backing on a Penn 30 SW reel and a Seeker 6455 XXXH rod.

Danny's best fish weighed 234 pounds and fought for an hour and a half.
