We left Saturday morning on Brandon Hayward’s “The Bight” 7 day expedition. To start we will point the bow of the Royal Star at the iconic Alijos Rocks with Wahoo in our cross hairs. Same usual routine as we make the travel down the beach: rest, rig, and socialize. Couple days worth of travel has got everyone on the edge of their seats, I’m sure seeing the big bounty of “Skins” we offloaded from the trip prior isn’t helping the case!

Day one at the Rocks: Arrived at the Rocks around 11AM. Moments after slowing down to trolling speed and slapping out the wired up lures we got our first strike, a 60 pounder on the DTX and a few bomb bites. Adrenalin blood pumping action has got everyone seeing silver! One here two there with a bingo for 8 was our day on the Skins. Wahoo always gets the main stage almost every time, in this case I’d say the co-star needs some credit. Co-Star being the 60-100lb Yellowfin Tuna that’s around. To think that primo grade Tuna is “in the way” of wahoo fishing is a real first world problem to have. As the sun sets on our first date of fishing we will not try to make some bigger baits and hopefully put them to good use on some slug Yellowtail that roams these rocks.

Day two: About last night

To our pleasant surprise everyone got to experience wide open dropper loop fishing where every drop was a bite, now whether one landed it or not is another story. Grade of fish was impressive right on par with the stories, 30-60 lb with a 75 lb standout! Congratulations to long time Royal Star veteran Bob Dawson. What an amazing fish. As the sun rose, the Yellows went to sleep. On that note we picked up the anchor and got to chopping the place up with the lures. Wahoos were a little more eager this morning with a nights rest. Never a big hit, steady strikes with constant bait and bomb bites. Mid day I decided to give everyone a break and an opportunity for a siesta. After all we have all been up since the wee hours of the morning. 10 mile move to the Bank not only charged everyone’s batteries up but also proved to be the right call as we were greeted with a banger bingo on 40-60 wahoo. At days end we now will make a move 160 miles East. The focus will be on YFT.

Attached is a compilation of phots from the past couple days. They say a picture is worth a thousand words.. well here’s a bunch of pictures.
