Summer Heat is Gone on the Truckee River
8-18-2024
Matt Koles
The Summer heat is gone on the Truckee River.
We'll still have our hot days, but its transitioning to Fall. Pine needle season if you know what I mean.
It's kinda of an odd time. We really don't have any hatches, trout have been gorging on crayfish, and the streamer fishing ain't good yet.
How do you catch fish then? Well, you don't really need to be out at the break of dawn, you should downsize your flies, and you need to start fishing all different waters types. If its 38 degrees at night fish are most likely sitting in slow water early, and as it warms they'll move up in the runs/ riffles to feed. Or they could be likely moving to get more protection as the sun comes up. Either way, I'd probably try fishing a little bit of everything. Now, streamer fishing could be good early, same with late in the evening.
Fall is literally just around the corner, and it really is the second trout season.
