Algae Update, Caution Level Advisory The California Department of Water Resources has informed State Parks that algae levels in recent water quality tests have improved, allowing the park to move from a warning level advisory, to a caution level advisory for the entire lake. At this time, Silverwood Lake is at a caution advisory for both Sawpit and Cleghorn Beach. This advisory is to protect the health and safety of park visitors and pets.
A caution warning indicates that you can swim in the water but you should avoid contact with algae and keep children away from algae. Do not drink the water or use it for cooking. Do not eat shellfish. Do not allow pets to enter the water.
Blue-green algae is a natural part of the lakes ecosystem. Algae can “bloom” or grow rapidly under ideal conditions, which include warm water temperature, calm conditions, and certain nutrients in the water. An algal bloom becomes harmful when it produces toxins. Learn more about Algae Blooms by clicking the link in our bio.
