Silver Creek Hatchery staff and volunteers help renovate the creek
7-31-2024
Arizona Game & Fish Department
Since 2001, Silver Creek has experienced several major floods. The flooding has had exponential ramifications to the AZGFD Silver Creek property, which is located 5 miles east of Show Low.
Silt loading has been the biggest impact as it has reduced stream depths, thus leading to vegetative invasion of Bullrush and Hydrilla. Bullrush has decreased angler access to the creek and Hydrilla has decreased open water for anglers to cast and for Silver Creek Hatchery staff to stock.
On June 25, members of the Payson Flycasters Club and Silver Creek Hatchery staff utilized powered landscaping equipment and good old manual labor to reduce Bullrush and Hydrilla infestation to improve opportunities for anglers at Silver Creek.
