Castaic Lake held near full pool

6-14-2024
Chad Burton and Chris Borden

Castaic Lake held near full pool which provided plenty of newly submerged cover for baitfish and bass. Water temperatures were in the mid-seventies, and water clarity has been excellent. Large and smallmouth anglers worked topwater lures until the sun got up higher in the sky. Drop shot, shaky heads, and Keitechs took bass in 5 to 15 feet of water mid-day. Striped bass pushed shad schools against the shore and anglers hooked up with small flukes, jerkbaits, and spoons. A-rigs, the bubble rig, and live shad have also been effective for all bass species. Catfish ate cut baits, chicken liver, and dip bait for shore anglers targeting striped bass along the dam, and bluegill have been plentiful in the submerged brush and weed beds.
