Spring Brown Trout Season On the Horizon!

1-21-2024
Jeff Goodwin

Its closing in on February and the start of our Shasta Lake trophy brown trout season!  Many factors play a role in our efforts and success, the most important being water conditions.  I'm happy to report that Shasta Lake will rise this weekend into the high 40' mark indication Shasta is over 70% full!  Wood debris is very light and water color is condusive to some great fishing opportunities.  Mid February and all of March has historically been our best timeframe for cold water brown trout fishing.  We will be fishing areas that have produced the best spring brown trout fishing year after year.  Our techniques are primarily oriented towrds trolling big Trinidad Tackle Optimizer spoons and in some cases medium to large stick baits.  In some cases we'll slow our troll and send out some Pautzke Fire brined Threadfin Shad or anchovy presentations.  Fishing shallow water around structure will be our priamry focus.  My 24' Boulton lake boat has a fully enclosed cabin and has heat on those cold mornings making for very comfortable days on the water for our clients.  We have seating for 6 but suggest group sizes of 2-4 anglers which allows more fish fighting opportunities for each angler throughout the day.  We do have a (2) person minimum but do have some availability to pair single anglers as well.  Contact Jaynie at the booking desk (530) 510-2925 for available trophy brown trout dates and any other bits of information you you need answers to.  The next few months are also the best times to get instruction and to learn how to fish during the cold water months on our NorCal lakes.  Thank you!
