Trout: The lake was stocked with 1,500 lbs. on December 14th, and will be stocked again on December 28th, with 1,500 lbs. of Rainbow Trout. See stocking schedule for future dates. Recommended baits are natural colored mini-jigs, garlic power bait, and silver cast masters. Hot spots for the week were the Fishing Pier, Half-Moon, and Hidden Bay.
Catfish: Catfish bite continues to be the most consistent fish to target at Lake Poway. Every week anglers fishing off both the shoreline and boats have luck. This week anglers were catching limits all over the lake, the largest catch of the week was a 45 lbs. Catfish from the Buoy Line. Recommended baits for targeting this fish are mackerel, chicken liver, and stink baits. Hot spots were the Fishing Pier, Buoy Line, and the Beach.
Bass: Recommended baits are night crawlers, creature jigs, and plastic worms. Hot spots for the week were Fishing Pier and Jump off Point.
Angler of the Month: Weigh in your largest caught fish at the boat dock (dock scale must be used by city staff). Prizes will be given away each month in the following categories: Bass, Catfish, and Trout. Prizes include Two Fishing Permits and a Full Day Motorboat.
29th Annual Youth Fishing Derby
A Seminar and Campout will be held the night before on Friday, February 2, 2024, learn to fish from the pros and watch demonstrations on how to properly rig a line the night before the 29th Annual Youth Fishing Derby. The fishing seminar will begin at 5:00 PM. Don't forget your camping and grilling supplies. Absolutely no fishing is permitted prior to the Derby.
