Trout Creek Outfitters
The fall fishing on the Little Truckee remains some of the best that we’ve seen. Both flows and temps remain stable even as air temps drop, making for active bugs and happy fish. There are 4 different food groups of note out here right now. While this may seem to make fly selection seem easy, it also means these fish are very keyed into the naturals. An accurate representation is necessary for success. The 4 items on the menu will be baetis (or BWO’s), midges, worms, and eggs. Baetis remain the most consistent producers out here, as they consistently hatch around mid-day. The midges are close to as predictable and are very abundant both on top and subsurface. The last two are the big-ticket items, and a high protein meal. Worms and eggs may not get you as many numbers, but a well presented one may catch you that trophy. We recommend 6x across the board right now, with some of the more confident anglers even opting for 7x after a long season of angling pressure.
