Salmon daily limit reduced for Olympic Peninsula rivers

Action: Reduces salmon daily limit to one (1) fish.

Effective date: Nov. 1 through Dec. 15, 2023.

Species affected: Salmon.

Locations and rules:

Bogachiel River (Clallam County) from mouth to Highway 101 Bridge:

  • Nov. 1 through Dec. 15, 2023: Minimum size is 12 inches. Daily limit is one (1). Release sockeye.

Calawah River (Clallam County) from the mouth to Highway 101 Bridge:

  • Nov. 1 through Dec. 15, 2023: Minimum size is 12 inches. Daily limit is one (1). Release sockeye.

Dickey River (Clallam County) from Olympic National Park boundary upstream to the confluence of the east and west forks:

  • Nov. 1 through Dec. 15, 2023: Minimum size is 12 inches. Daily limit is one (1). Release sockeye.

Hoh River (Jefferson County) from the Olympic National Park boundary upstream to the Morgan’s Crossing boat launch:

  • Nov. 1 through Nov. 30, 2023: Minimum size is 12 inches. Daily limit is one (1).
  • Dec. 1 through Dec. 15, 2023: Minimum size is 12 inches. Daily limit is one (1). Release all salmon other than coho.

Quillayute River (Clallam County) from the Olympic National Park boundary upstream to the confluence of Bogachiel and Sol Duc rivers:

  • Nov. 1 through Dec. 15, 2023: Minimum size is 12 inches. Daily limit is one (1). Release sockeye.

Sol Duc River (Clallam County) from the mouth to the concrete pump station at Sol Duc Hatchery:

  • Nov. 1 through Dec. 15, 2023: Minimum size is 12 inches. Daily limit is one (1). Release sockeye.

Reason for action: In-season data indicates that Chinook and coho salmon are returning to the Quillayute watershed and Hoh River below pre-season forecasts. This action is necessary to meet conservation guidelines and minimum spawner escapement goals.

Additional information: Permanent regulations include only one single-point barbless hook allowed. Internal combustion motors are prohibited.
