10-14-2023
Lahontan National Fish Hatchery Staff
On 8/29/2023 the Lahontan National Fish Hatchery Complex completed stocking 100,000 Pilot Peak strain Lahontan cutthroat trout into Lake Tahoe for the 2023 season. A total of 25% of the trout stocked this year were tagged with a T-bar anchor tag that has a unique ID and phone number on it. Anglers are encouraged to report their catch and help our biologists evaluate the success of the stocking along with the growth, survival and distribution of the fish. Thank you to the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, Nevada Department of Wildlife, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and the USDA Forest Service-Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit for the ongoing collaboration in this effort.
Fun Facts:
-Lahontan cutthroat trout are the only trout native to Lake
Tahoe.
-Lahontan cutthroat trout are the state fish of Nevada.
-Lahontan cutthroat trout are the largest inland cutthroat trout in the
