Smallmouth Bass

October 12, 2023 Lake Del Valle Outing

Del Valle Marina

Pom Avecilla of San Mateo, Paul Clouse of Lafayette, and Al Hurwitz of Saratoga trolled Lake Del Valle on October 12, 2023. Beautiful day, clear water, with a surface temperature between 68-70 degrees. A very slow start to the day, but picked up a lot after 1 PM. We caught 9 fish, including 7 Smallmouth Bass and 2 Bluegills. Pictured below are Pom with a very nice Smallmouth and Paul and Al with a nearly one pound Bluegill caught by Paul. The fish were caught mostly in Swallow Bay along a rocky shoreline. We were trolling Panther Martin 1/4 oz. Spinners about 20-25 feet below the surface in 30-35 foot water columns. Scent was applied to the lures. We lost two nice heavy Smallmouths earlier in the day. All the fish were released in excellent condition.

All in all a very good day!
