Little Truckee River Fly Fishing Report & Forecast

Rumor has it that we will see very low flows out here starting in August, to the tune of 30 CFS. If/when this happens, we encourage you not to fish out here, as these flows will really limit the water these fish can hold in. However, as of today the flows are 120 CFS and the river is fishing very well. The dry fly fishing took a bit longer to kick into gear this year, but the PMD’s Yellow Sallies and Caddis are making up for lost time and have been on a very consistent schedule over the last few weeks. These fish continue to see a lot of fishing pressure and having an accurate fly selection, light tippet and a good presentation will make all the difference out here. With the steady crowds , we encourage you to focus on fishing here early in the mornings, late in the evenings, or mid-week. In case you weren’t already familiar with the USGS Water Data, this will be a great resource to get up the minute flows on the Little Truckee so you’re assuring your not going to head out here if the flows do plummet. It is also a great resource to see water temps on the Truckee, and both the Farad and Sparks gauging stations will have thermometers. If you would rather call the shop to get the latest on conditions, we are always happy to talk to you, you can give us a call or stop in every day between 7-7.

If you would like to go fishing with us please check out our website Trout Creek Outfitters.com or call (530) 563-5119.
