Lake Jennings Weekly Report

6-21-2023
Lake Jennings Staff

Stocking: The next stocking of 1,000 pounds of catfish is this week! That will bring our total stock up to 2,500 pounds so far. We will stock 8,500 pounds of catfish this season.

What’s the Catch? The new moon this weekend yielded some interesting catches. A father-son team caught a 28-pound Mirror Carp on a bread ball in Hermit Cove. For weeks fishermen have been telling us there was an albino catfish in the lake. Well, somebody finally caught it (and released it)! See pics below. This weekend catfish, bass, and a variety of panfish were reported. The Bluegill and Crappie were pulled from Half Moon Cove and the t-dock. Meal and wax worms all day long for these guys. Bass were pulled from the t-dock and west of the Hermit Cove buoy line. There were sightings of trophy bass near the tower buoy line, but no bites. Sounds like drop shot, nightcrawlers, and brush hog were all working with bass. The catfish bite is picking up as water temps rise. Look for catfish off of the campground shoreline in Eagle Cove, Siesta Cove, and near big rock. They were biting on everything from dip baits to mackerel and shrimp. With the stocking this week catfish will be in Cloister Cove on Friday and Hermit Cove on Saturday.

Conditions: The water temperature at the surface is 68 degrees. The temps throughout the water column are fairly consistent with only a 5 degree difference from the surface to the very bottom. The dissolved oxygen is consistent throughout the water column. The sun is rising at 5:41 a.m. and setting at 7:59 p.m.
