Detroit Reservoir Fishing Report

6-5-2023
Bernie Hoene

Hi everyone, It's been a long time since I have made any posts this year. The fishing at Detroit Lake has been very difficult to-date. There have been days I put one kokanee to 13 kokanee on the boat. But for most of the times out it has been one or two at best. Plenty of trout but very few kokanee. My opinion is that due to the volume of fresh water still coming into the lake from winter snow melts, the volume of water being let out of the lake and the fact the fish I have caught were so filled with zooplankton they have been very inactive. Last Friday I took two customers out wanting to learn how to kokanee fish. They got a lot of practice changing depths, set back and speed, along with changing lures to see what it takes to kokanee fish. I marked tons of fish on the south side of the island and mostly near the sportsman docks. The kokanee we did get were all at 40 feet with 50 foot set back, trolling at 1.0 mph. All I can say is stay the course, it will get better. "That's kokanee fishing for ya"......To all my customers who came out this year, thank you for a great effort !!!
See ya all on the water.
Safe boating & Tight lines,
Bernie
