Beautiful weather triggered a bluefin float. No surprise, numerous schools showed late in the day in rapidly improving conditions. Serving the purpose of orienting the fleet it was merely a matter of time awaiting results come dark. Of course with bluefin finding them is often the easier part. Catching them is a whole different story.

In our case it took some time to find the right school. A handful of very challenging, fishless hours, so typical in this type of fishing, were finally rewarded with a couple of great opportunities that placed us squarely in the game. Bluefin in the 80-120 pound class had the right disposition. And we had the right gear. Justice was served. That said our position in the victory parade was not where we prefer. Two full days and a couple more nights in beautiful conditions are a stage for better things to come. We shall see...

Photo today features Royal Star friend and veteran Ron Herschberger and his 75 pound class bluefin landed on the fly lined sardine. Nice work Ron!
