Shasta still fishes while she fills!
1-28-2023
Jeff Goodwin
Shasta Lake is quite cold with the mountain water still coming in. The debris is very manageable even after a rise of over 50' in recent weeks. Finding clear water on Shasta was the key for success this week. Unfortunately the water temps were 44-45 degrees and that’s not optimal if your looking for a good number of bites. The trout we did get to go were very nice and in great shape! Side planers pulling spoons have been getting the most action. Lots of choices as far as where to fish on the lake right now but I will say the main body of the lake between Bridge Bay and Centimudi has the best water right now. It’s the warmest water on the lake and it’s not as turbid as the lakes arms right now. As a bonus we marked some pretty good schools of Kokanee this week. We didn’t fish for them but it was great to see some already this year and we'll start targeting them on and off over the next few months.
