Fishing Conditions

The Animas: a favorite winter fishery.  Expect fishing to wax and wane, but keep at it.  Nymphs are the standard trick, but a slow and deep fish streamer wouldn’t be a bad idea either.  More than anything, get your fly size and weight right.  When in doubt, go smaller with the flies and deep with the weight.

Patterns/Bug

Mayfly Nymphs: Killer Mayfly Nymphs 18-24, Rainbow Warrior 18-22, Pheasant Tails 16-18, RS-2 18-20, Juan’s Sniper Baetis 20-24.

Midges: Black Midge Pupa 18-22, Disco Midge 18-20, Tav’s Big Mac Pupa.

Caddis Pupa: Barr’s Graphic Caddis 16-18, TBH Jig Caddis 16-18, Anicaddis 16-18.

Attractors: Prince nymphs and variants 16-18, Orange Crush 12-16, RIO’s Raindrop 14-16, Egg and SJ worm patterns.

Olive, Black, White Streamers: GD Sculpin Snack, Sculpinator, RIO’s Gold Jigger
