Upper Lake Mary Fishing Report

11-22-2022
Arizona Game & Fish Department

The lake level is low, but access to the lake is open and the floating docks at the main boat ramps are in the water. Access to the northernmost boat launch (closest to the dam) is difficult for larger boats. The southern main launch is better, but there is a large hole by the floating dock. The center of the southern launch is a better bet. Access to the Narrows is closed for the winter season. Local campgrounds (Canyon Vista, Lakeview, and Pine Grove) typically close sometime in November/December. Walleye and northern pike are being caught using lures with vibration such as inline spinners, crankbaits, jointed swimbaits, and bottom bouncers with a trailing night crawler. The lake is very turbid (dirty), so fishing with bait or lures with a lot of vibration or scent is recommended. Be cautious of shallow areas and large rocks while boating. The southeastern end of the lake past the Narrows (away from the dam) is very shallow to the point that parts of the old railroad bed near the Newman Canyon inflow are now exposed. Ice has been forming overnight in the southeastern end of the lake, limiting access.
