2022 Pyramid Lake Opener Update

This year's Pyramid Lake opener opened up in a fury, with large numbers of fly anglers, conventional anglers and boaters descending upon lake in pilgramage fashion. From the incredibly long boat ramp line, campers on beaches, and more float craft than we have seen in years, it was a busy day to start the much anticipated season. With all the hype around the opener you would think someone had inside info that would lead many to believe it was going to be a white hot fishery on day one, much like it was last October 1st. That wasn't really the case, and fishing proved to be a bit challenging, but with that being said folks were still getting fish to the net. The Trout were rather savvy to all the commotion, however if you were fishing the right depths in the proximity of the massive bait balls we were witnessing, you could cash in on a healthy grab and reward your opening day efforts by getting a piglet in your net. This time of year you have to fish deep, preferably from a float craft, and chase the fish with some pretty unique jigging methods which are rather endemic to Pyramid Lake. Early season is great time to get out, enjoy the mild weather, and get on some fish, and as the weeks endure throughout October you will have the chance to get on some monster lahaontans. Reach out to our partners at Pyramid Fly Company at 877.732.3597 if you want to book a guided float trip aboard one of their Watermaster rafts....its an experience you won't soon forget! Good luck on the lake and tight lines!
