Great Day of Kokanee Fishing at Stampede
6-24-2022
James Netzel
Took my Dad out to Stampede for trout and Kokanee. Decided to start fishing for trout so we went into the shallows with long setbacks. 2 Jay Fair trolling flies about 4-6” behind a medium action disc 200’ back. Then 2 on the downrigger with Paulina Peak Tackle micro hoochie and watermelon UV hoochies behind P Lite dodgers. All tipped with a piece of red worm on the hooks. Trolled in 10-20’ of water at 1.5-1.7 SOG. Results? 1 nice natural rainbow which we released and 15 big Kokanee. Threw anything under 14” back keeping only the big ones up to 16”. All in less than 1 hour!!!!! What I’m the world are those Kokanee doing in such shallow water? Hitting my trout lures is what!! Lol. Maybe we need to drag the bottom in 20-30’ of water next time as I was seeing big marks down there. And I was not gonna drag my Shark Cannonballs!!! Lol
Have a late morning trip available Saturday as morning is chartered. Probably start second trip around 9am if you’re interested.
