EAST WALKER RIVER
The EW is running at about 70 cfs right now. It seems as though there hasn’t been a tremendous amount of traffic down there as we haven’t had lots of reports lately, of the reports we have received, some have been pretty good and others have been tougher. We have started to hear about some fish being caught on streamers which is good though most of the successful reports have been with small nymph and midge patterns. It sounds like the most productive section has been the “Miracle Mile” section but there has been some decent reports from down below the bridge as well. We haven’t heard of any caddis activity yet but with the warmer weather lately they’ll probably be coming out pretty soon. Because of the low water situation we’re having this season, much like last season, we will likely get into a situation at some point where we will be encouraging anglers to stay off the river so now is a really good time to get some fishing in down there before it gets too warm. Some patterns to try include: psycho prince, tailwater tiny, flashback emerger, darth baetis, san juan worm, zuddler, dead drift crayfish, sculpzilla.
SCEIRINE RANCH
We didn’ t get much news back from the ranch this week, we have several days booked coming up though and if we get some reports back we’ll be sure to pass them along.
BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR
As it was last week, the Reservoir was a little hit and miss this week with some days being pretty good and other days being slower. It sounds like yesterday the bait fishing over near Rainbow Point really picked up with several anglers reporting limits of 2 to 5 pounders with power bait and night crawlers. There were several days this past week when the trolling was good but other days it was slower. There has been some perch starting to make a showing with some weighing in at 2.5 pounds or more. The successful trollers have been using night crawlers, needlefish, small Rapalas and Thomas Bouyants while the bait anglers have been using Power Bait, inflated crawlers, mice tails and pinched crawlers. Haven’t heard much from the fly anglers lately down there. The shore fishing has been pretty tough with just a couple fish here and there caught from the shore near the dam with bait.
KIRMAN LAKE
We didn’t hear anything from Kirman this week, if we hear something we’ll be sure to let you know.
TWIN LAKES
The Twins have also been a little hit and miss lately with some reports coming in of some nice fish in the 2 to 6 pound range but some reports of anglers not doing so well. We didn’t hear of any browns this week but there were some nice rainbows caught. It seems like it’s been more about quality than quantity lately, not lots of fish but solid 2 to 6 pounders being caught. Power bait, pinched crawlers, inflated crawlers and mice tails have been producing some fish and for the trolling it’s been Kastmasters, Thomas Bouyants and Rapalas. We haven’t heard much from the fly anglers lately but I would suggest an intermediate line stripping streamers like matukas, wooly buggers and leeches with a soft hackle or zug bug dropper.
WEST WALKER RIVER
With the warmer weather the West has increased its flow to over 600 cfs and is very off color, it’s possible to catch fish under these conditions but it’s very difficult. There’s not a huge snowpack this year so the run-off shouldn’t last too long up there, the fishing should get better when the flows come down.
VIRGINIA LAKES
The ice on the Virginias is breaking up fast, at this time there’s plenty of open water to fish and we’ve been getting some decent reports of some nice brookies and smaller rainbows being caught from the shore up there. Power bait, mice tails and crawlers habe been producing some fish as well as Kastmasters and Thomas Bouyants. There are some “ iceburgs” floating around the lakes but I’d expect them to be gone within a day or two.

RANDOM INFORMATION: We’re not getting much support from the Department of Fish and Wildlife these days in regards to stocking fish, fortunately, Mono County, the Bridgeport Fish Enhancement Foundation and the Twin Lakes Trout Foundation are all willing to spend money on planting fish in our local waters. These plants don’t happen every week but usually there’s some fish going in the water from one or more of these outfits at least once a month. Give them a shout out and your support when you can, they do a great job.
