Sierra Bow included in lakes' trout supplies;
fishermen ready for Trout Derbies
? (SAN BERNARDINO, CA) Cool fall weather ushers in trout season at San Bernardino County Regional Parks' lakes. Beginning November 7th lakes at Yucaipa, Prado, Mojave Narrows and Cucamonga Guasti Regional Parks will be stocked with trout. The stockings will continue through April 10, 2010. Glen Helen Regional Park, San Bernardino, will open for Trout Season starting November 21st.
Included in this year's stocking varietals is the Sierra Bow, a full-finned ruby read meat rainbow trout that comes closest to the wild rainbow trout. This type of trout comes from the coldest spring fed waters in the highest mountain elevations, grown in earth ponds and streams. These vividly colored wild-acting trout should provide anglers with rod bending action and create excitement during the Regional Parks' annual Trout Derbies.
The Trout Derby Season kicks off at Cucamonga Guasti Regional Park in Ontario December 12, 2009. There are five derbies running from December 12th through April 6th 2010. Other parks hosting derbies are as follows: Yucaipa, January 9, 2010; Prado (Chino), February 6, 2010; Mojave Narrows (Victorville), March 20, 2010; and Glen Helen (San Bernardino), April 6, 2010.
Fishing enthusiasts compete to catch the largest trout in the shortest amount of time to win prizes ranging in value from $35 to $500. Sponsors of this season's events include: Turners Outdoors, Camping World, Charter Communications, and Bakers Drive-Thru.
Trout Derbies commence at 7:00 a.m. and end at 1:00 p.m. Registration is $15 per fisherman and a $10 park entry fee. A state fishing license is required and may be purchased at the host park. For more information regarding these events, please contact (909) 38-PARKS or www.county-parks.com.
