BASS
Lassen improved the bassin'! Swimbait fishing came to the forefront this week due to the recent trout plant. Shore anglers and boaters were pummeled with a barrage of big bass on Z plugs, LA sliders, Swimbabes, BBZ's, and Tripletrouts. The best big bait action is near the marina and the east dam. Big baits dominate, but the shad ain't bad. Flukes, scroungers, under spins, cranks, and spoons remain top rate bait. The drop shot is still hot with the standard finesse colors, morning dawn, margarita mutilator, and prism shad. You can also fish deeper with a Carolina rigged Reaper.
TROUT
There were no complaints about the trout with the with the DVL opener leading to limits for boaters and shore anglers. Mini Jigs were the bait of late with in-line spinners, and Powerbait also landing some lunkers. Arrel Henderson of San Bernardino caught a 5.80 pound trout fishing the east shoreline with an orange jig. Ramon Perez of Moreno Valley caught his biggest trout at 5.14 pounds fishing from shore with a spinner. Elliott Lewis filled his stringer fishing with jigs and spinners. Devonte and Breyonna each caught their limits with jigs fishing from shore.
STRIPER
Lassen trout brought the striper out! Big baits caught some big weights this week. The marina cove and the east dam are the best spots to land a line side. If you are looking for sizable striper DVL is the place to be with not many catches coming in under 10 pounds. Not sure what lure? Z plugs, Lunker Punkers, LA sliders, BBZ's, California Cwimbabes, Tripletrouts, and Huddlestons will do the trick. Sean Wunding caught an 8 pound striper fishing with swimbaits. Jesse Mena of Hemet caught a 14.05 pound striper fishing with a Lunker Punker. Tou Yang of Murrieta caught two striper at 13.16 and 11.78 pounds fishing with a Lunker Punker. Mac Weakley of Carlsbad caught his biggest striper at 18.47 pounds fishing near the marina with a Huddleston. Mike Winn of Carlsbad caught his biggest at 12.11 pounds fishing with a Huddleston near the marina. Damon Hughes of Corona caught a 4 pound striper fishing in Rawson cove with a kastmaster. Larry Irwin caught a 14 pound striper fishing with a swimbait. Dan McCaffrey of Corona caught an 11.8 pound striper fishing with a Rapala. Steve Chatwood of Yucaipa caught a 14.31 pound striper fishing with a swimbait. Tyler Chatwood of Yucaipa caught a 15.25 pound striper fishing with a swimbait. Chris Hugunin caught a 14.5 pound striper fishing near the inlet with a swimbait. Michael Hughes caught a 13.75 pound striper fishing the west dam with a Z plug.
CATFISH
Not many cats were caught this week. Rawson cove and the inlet were familiar spots to try. Most cut baits, nightcrawlers, or Hog Wild will catch the cats.
PANFISH
Panfish reports diminished this week. There were a few reports from the usual spots on the dams and in Rawson cove. Live worms, jigs, and crickets are the best baits.
